Game of Thrones (HBO)

This was a definite "hey been awhile, here's what everyone is up to, remember?" episode. Necessary, but with only 5 episodes to go not entirely satisfying.

I loved it a little reunion centric episode before the blood letting.

Didn't think we would see some of the stuff so soon (dragon riding and lineage reveal) but was quite chuffed to see it.

Looking around my lil viewing party I got sorta sad though, but the prequel series will prob get us all together on Sundays in the future as well.

Well we spent the first two episodes of this shortened season establishing next to nothing. I'm a little concerned now because we have four episodes left to wrap this whole thing up and I'm wondering if the writing and pacing are going to suffer because of it since we pretty much wasted the first two episodes jerking off. Why did we even need this past episode? I know there's a lot in store for us but the first 1/3 of the season feels like a waste.

The AVClub has this as one of the all time great episodes. I wouldn't go that far, but I thought it was great.

For me, the show was never all battles, tits, and dragons. The interpersonal relationships are key, and often some of the best scenes have just been two people talking (Tywin and Tyrion, Jamie and Brienne in the bath, etc.)

Lots of those moments in this episode, and everyone reckoning with death.

Bring on the battle episode next week. They've got me amped.

I liked the episode I didn't love it. Could have been rolled into ep 1. All these reunions and we just get a shot of ghost hanging out behind Sam and John? No explanation at all. Just appears?

Are they really going to kill the night king next week though? I mean he's gotta extract a heavy toll from the living if it's gonna end just seemingly so abruptly.

But gotta clear the way for the Clegane bowl regardless so hound will survive.

Something I never thought I would see back in Season 1; Arya Stark sex scene. Oh, how times have changed.

I really liked last night's episode. I guess it was sort of the same as the premiere in that it featured a ton of characters reuniting and catching up, with little plot movement, but I thought it was much better than the premiere. I'm a sucker for the side characters sitting and talking, so I really enjoyed a lot of the scenes, namely the Tyrion, Jamie, Brienne etc.. fireside chat.

I agree from the posts above that some of this is being a little rushed, without explanation, such as Ghost's reappearance. I also don't think it was smart for John to tell Dany now, I would have waited until after the battle. And while were on the subject, the whole John/Dany relationship is just not doing it for me. I haven't bought into that dynamic at all. Feels a bit forced.

I do think that the writers kind of put themselves in a corner with a shortened final season. I get that some of the episodes are longer in length, but there is enough to get at for a full season, without any of these things feeling rushed.

And it does almost seem like they are showing their cards with the walker battle being in the 3rd episode. I get the feeling the living will somehow win, albeit at an extreme cost with lots of people dying, and then the last half will be about Jon/Dany going against Cersei, which is not as compelling. But I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Is there a chance Gendry knocked up Arya, setting up a Stark/Baratheon dynasty in the event of John and Dany dying?

Judging by this episode, Brienne and Genry.
