After running a quick IMDB check, this was written by someone who ordinarily works in the visual FX industry, and is also the male lead. I can understand why a person working in CGI would want to take a shot at their own movie, especially after Skyline. As terrible as it was though, Skyline at least had good FX in it, while this looks like student project level quality. I'm not entirely convinced that Best Friend from Heaven isn't intentionally bad. I find it hard to believe that anyone who has worked in the film industry for as long as he has could think this is anything but a train wreck. Unfortunately for him, there's nothing worse than a bad comedy. The Room was able to make it's mark in the 'so bad it's good' genre because of it's earnestness. This seems more like a Lifetime network version of Sharknado.

Get ready to eat your words. Kristofferson will sweep up during awards season. With lines like, “Hey guys, I’m back. I can talk now” I can certainly understand why anyone would feel that way. Sadly however, a two week theatrical run is required to qualify for awards. In addition to that, the cost of making and mailing screener copies to The Academy would cost more than the production budget of the movie. Krisofferson's role of a lifetime is probably going to be cheated by circumstance. |
