Comcast has dropped out of the bidding for Fox. Their battle for Sky continues, however. The US Justice Dept. gave the okay for a Disney purchase of most of Fox's assets in June, so there's nothing standing in their way all they were looking to buy, except for Sky.

Disney is laying off 2,300 Fox employees and 1,700 Disney employees following the merger.

Yes and No. Fantastic Four was obvious... and they have a way in with their galactic universe. But X-Men and Deadpool aren't gonna be easy to integrate. They don't make sense in the world established by Marvel. They don't make sense in the comics either but everyone gave it a pass cause "comics are for kids" and no one gonna waste their time nitpicking.

The title of the article, and the confirmation in general, is silly. Who else would be put in charge of those characters if not Marvel? Pixar? But I guess Iger felt the need to reiterate the fact. Besides that, the article wasn't really speaking on the MCU beyond its own speculation. Nevertheless, while it won't necessarily be easy, I think everyone is already aware that Marvel will be trying to integrate them into the MCU as well. This is non-news.

If they add a multi-verse plan, you can have a separate Earth with the X-Men and Fantastic 4.
That way you won't have to try to make sense of superheroes, and mutants that type of fuckery will be fucky/

How do they deal with the mutant/hero fuckery in the comics? Easy, they have the entire world violently opposed to mutants because they were born different while having everyone able to make a distinction between them and people like Spider-Man and Captain America who gained their powers later in life and are therefore heroes, makes perfect sense.

I guess a decent chunk of New York does hate Spider-Man anyway so that kinda works.

It's sketchy but I suppose one of the reasoning is public relations. The Avengers and the Fantastic Four are very public and work with both the government and the public and have earned trust, while Spider-Man is a mystery dude who just pops in and squirts webs (which is gross). He's an Avenger sometimes and opinion on him varies, though a lot of his backlash has to do with the way media portrays them. While X-Men are very private yet politcal, while other mutants prefer to stay hidden.
I interpret it as an uneasiness at the idea of superpowers existing in the world but some powered folk are just outspoken celebrities and others are more mysterious, which makes people nervous.

Fox isn't being eliminated as a studio. They will continue on as a sister studio of Disney, the way Pixar does. It was theoretically possible that the X-Men would stay at Fox for the immediate future. Between the fact that Kevin Feige is a huge X-Men fan, and that the MCU is about to get a major shakeup in the wake of Thanos, it's the perfect time to go ahead and bring mutants into the MCU.

Plus..... his first producer credit was on X-Men, back when he was Lauren Schuler Donner's assistant. Now that he has real power, I'm sure he's itching to do X-Men his way.

While there are still a few minor wrinkles needing to be iron out in places like Mexico and Brazil, Disney and Fox have decided that January 1st, 2019 is The Day. From that point forward, as far as Fox is concerned, everything Disney bought from Fox is now theirs, to do with as they please. link

The article from back in December was apparently jumping the gun by quite a bit, clearly. It's since been reported that until the deal is completely closed, Fox and Disney are legally restricted from coordinating with one another. To do so would put the merger in jeopardy, and neither side wants to do that. Apparently, all that Fox has really been doing is stopped spending money on the development properties that have been in development hell for years, whether they involve Marvel characters or not. The issues holding things up in Brazil and Mexico have been iron out, and Disney announced this morning that the merger will “become effective at 12:02 a.m. Eastern time on March 20.” link
