Sigh, okay. Can we at least get the real star wars on bluray then? Sadly, I suspect this is the death knell of any official pre-special edition versions of the Original Trilogy. Our best hope was that Fox would want to cash in before the rights to ESB and RotJ reverted back to Lucasfilm in 2020. Now that all deadlines are going to be irrelevant, the only incentive for Disney is to cash in on the die-hard fans who want it. The sad reality is that there just aren't that many of us. Most people were satisfied enough with the Special Editions on bluray. I think we're just going to have to content ourselves with the De-Specialized Editions. We've got ANH and ESB so far, and RotJ is in the works.

Looks like the deal is done, and yeah, Hulu was part of the deal.

I'm more interested in the fate of Fox Searchlight right now. It seems successful enough that Disney migt just keep it as is, at least I hope that's what happens.

It might get folded into whatever the hell Miramax is now. Hopefully that's part of what they're buying, I can't imagine they spent 52 billion just to get X-Men and Avatar.

Disney sold off Miramax in 2010. If anything, it could be their "new" Miramax, I suppose. X-Men, Star Wars, etc, are all just extra bonuses in this deal. Disney's acquisition was primarily fueled by their want to expand their digital market presence, and FOX's catalog allows them to do that. Of course, that's in addition to the majority ownership in Hulu, which according to Iger they're greatly interested in growing:

So basicly all the Netflix Disney shows will be likely seen on Hulu and The Disney Streaming service or Hulu will be the Disney Streaming place when Disney Flexes its might who own shares of Hulu.

Wow. And if with Warner able to essentially make HBO Go their platform... alright I get why Netflix is making so much original content now.

I'm no longer as confident that the X-Men will be staying at Fox and have nothing to do with the MCU. From what I've been reading, Kevin Feige is a huge X-Men fan. It seems unlikely that he would decide to keep his new toys separate from the ones he's been playing with for the last decade. What does seem likely is that 2018 is the last time we will see three X-Men films released in the same year.
It appears almost certain that all of Fox's future plans for their mutants beyond 2018 are going to be abandoned. In some cases, this is for the best. Gambit was a stupid idea for a solo project from the beginning, and the X-Men began going in the wrong direction with X-Men: Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix looks to be another misstep. Deadpool started off as it's own thing, with cameos that had no association with previous incarnations on film, so it's fine. This might be a sad end to The New Mutants as a franchise. I don't know if the movie is any good or not, but at the very least it's got a solid cast.
The fact that Kevin Feige already intended to make significant changes to the MCU in the wake of Avengers IV provides a well timed opportunity to blend multiple universes together without it being too messy. I wouldn't be surprised if Thanos uses the Infinity Gauntlet to destroy every Marvel Universe, including the various X-Men timelines. When one of the heroes manages to get the Gauntlet away from him and try to put things right, the result is an amalgamation of the MCU and X-Men. I don't see any need to include the Fantastic Four into the equation. It would be far simpler to write them into the New MCU by just having their spaceship launch in November of 1961, never to be seen again until it arrives in the modern day, having spent the past few months from their perspective in the Negative Zone.

What does seem likely is that 2018 is the last time we will see three X-Men films released in the same year. When was the first time? 2018 is the first time, but if Fox had launched franchises for Gambit, X-Force and Cable, there would have been other years with three movies. Now, Disney will likely bump their MCU output from three movies per year to four. That's a pretty reasonable number, especially now that WB/DC is dialing things back in the wake of Justice League's disappointing showing.

There's been a bunch of rumblings lately that Comcast is throwing a wrench in the works by making an all cash offer for Fox to compete with Disney's all stock offer. I'm no economist, or big business man, but from my perspective it seems as though the stock option from Disney is still the better deal. The value of Disney stock has been rising steadily since the late 1980's, while the purchasing power of the dollar has done nothing but decline during the same time period.
On the subject of the X-Men, 2018 isn't going to have three X-Men films after all. Dark Phoenix and New Mutants have been pushed back to 2019. Simon Kinberg continues to insist that Gambit is going to happen, but this is the same guy who kept saying the Fant4stic sequel was happening for a year after it crashed and burned.
