Oky, I'm going to be grumpy old man for a second, so if you are not interested in me being a buzzkill dont read further. I still really like this show, but I am starting to worry its going to just turn into s smorgasbord of EU fan pandering. It might turn out to be really cool, but may just as easily be alienating. I won't go into NDA-breaking/career-ending spoilers but based on my limited knowledge of the EU I think episode 5 is about the end of any huge callbacks to Clone Wars etc. There may or may not be some other callbacks though, some more predictable and others that people have already started to guess and others that will be attempts to 'break the internet' that you'll know when you see them. |

While I don't expect the original EU to become canon again, I am hopeful that a new canon will be slowly introduced that ignores the sequels. I do expect that the new canon will draw from the best parts of the EU, namely the Thrawn Trilogy. The sequels take place so long after Return of the Jedi that it's easy to build a world that doesn't have to address anything about them. With any luck, and some good writers, Disney will establish a rich and well made Star Wars universe that can continue on for decades. When the time comes to brush the sequels aside, nobody will miss them. |
