The bad news is: this is a Thor movie. Any hopes this would be a Planet Hulk film disguised as Thor Ragnarok are tossed out the window. Marvel actually expects us to remember shit that happened in Thor: The Dark World. That whole Odin/Loki shit sets up the story here. Odin dies and his daughter shows up to take over Asgard. She banishes Thor and Loki to Planet Hulk and they spend the remainder of the movie trying to get back. The Planet Hulk stuff are fun but it represents like 25% of the running time. There is a random scene with Doctor Strange that is amusing but utterly pointless. But the majority of the film is the usual Thor family drama. They sold this as a Guardians of the Galaxy type thing but it’s just Thor 3. Sad!

I'll take FShuttari's word for it. Never thought the former: it feels obvious to me that the Planet Hulk aspect is going to be the side-story, albeit fun bit of the movie... The core story to the overall picture is going to be that of Ragnarok and Hela Even if the best that can be said is that it is the best of the Thor films, that's good enough for me. Most of everyone seems to have enjoyed it. I may be seeing it tomorrow night or Saturday. Haven't decided yet.

I'll take FShuttari's word for it There was zero spoilers. If you've seen Thor: The Dark World, the post-credits of Doctor Strange and the trailers, there's zero surprises. Even the post-credits are obvious. The movie isn't bad. All Marvel movies are at least entertaining. But compared to Guardians 2 and Spider-Man, it's weak sauce.

It's worse than Guardians 2? Wow. Not that I disliked Guardians 2, I just expected this to be better.

Planet Hulk is only like 25% of the running time. It's very much Thor 3 and a follow-up to Thor: The Dark World. So yeah, it's a disappointment. It's not a bad movie, but definitely not what we wanted. It was supposed to be a Thor-Hulk buddy movie but it's just the same Thor-Loki-family drama from the other movies.

Neverending, you make it sound like it's just a Thor movie. But a lot of people have been anticipating this film. In fact its more anticipated for me than Spider-man and Guardians.
To say no one cares, and it's okay to write spoilers is a dumb move, something Red Vader would do.

This movie pisses on every Spider-Man iteration ever made from a great height.
Probably the best Marvel film to-date, I'll need to stew on that for a while though. Top 3 at least.

Best Marvel movie of the year!! Take it Naysayers!! Thor and Hulk banter! I didn’t know I needed something so badly until I saw it!! Sorry Spideyboy and Guardians this movie is much more entertaining, Cate Blanchett killed it as well. Best cameo by Matt Damon
Also seeing Dr. Strange was a lot of fun Ranking 1. Avengers 2. Captain America: Winter Soldier 3. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 4. Thor Ragnorak 5. Civil War

This movie was a lot of fun.
CGI now though.... its really just a playground. They can do whatever they want. I mean, obviously things had to go this way, thats how progress works, but the problem is that the wow factor is gone.

It's definitely the funniest and most energetic of the Thor films, thanks to Taika Waititi, plus the action sequences are really entertaining. But a pet peeve of mine as of late concerning these MCU movies continues here: why are they so afraid of just letting dramatic moments be dramatic moments? Why do they insist on ruining the mood seconds after something like that happens with some kind of one-liner? Hey, Kevin Feige, it's okay to have something serious happen and then just let it speak for itself. Don't worry about your audience not laughing for a scene. Other than that, the movie's good.

I feel the only reason this movie stayed from staying serious is because nobody cares for Thor movies. Nobody was lining up in droves to see Thor 1 and 2.
This is the best thing that happened to the series. This isn't Winter Soldier or Civil War. This is silly Greek Mythology as comics.

Which the other two were as well. And Thor 1 wasn’t “serious” either. All the scenes of Thor on Earth were played for laughs.

Norse? Does it really matter? Honestly maybe less than 10 percent are actual die hard Thor comic fans. The General public does not.

I'll say that for me personally, the tone was better-balanced in the first film. As much as I enjoyed Ragnarok, and I DID enjoy it, the heavily comedic tone feels kind of weird in comparison to what the first two established. And it could have benefitted from knowing when to let certain moments or scenes breathe without trying to cram in an extra joke. I'm not saying the first two worked BECAUSE they were a bit more serious, but they established a tone that this one veers away from. It's just...interesting. I still say the first Thor is the best of this series, but I won't challenge anyone who chooses this one.

It “make sense” if you realize this follows the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
