I still have my Nancy K impression down.
My sister was far enough in figure skating in 93-96 that she was in the Northeast Regionals, and offered Disney on Ice when she didn't qualify for Nationals.
She's adopted from Korea, and after enough inquiries she didn't correct kids anymore when they asked if she was Kristy Yamaguchi. Might have signed a few autographs.
Anyways, I watched WAY too much figure skating growing up.

A young woman who's spent her entire life focused on nothing but figure skating, surrounded by other people doing the exact same thing can't relate to the notion of an amusement park aimed at small children? This doesn't surprise me in the slightest. At that point in her life, she's still not even in the real world yet. She's gone from the skating world to Hollywood, or looked at another way, she's gone from weird world to batshit crazyland.

Well, she was young and probably felt dragged around by her manager, and the whole big advertising circuit from one event to another and another and another.... It gets pretty overwhelming fast. Kelly Clarkson was going from event to event, and every time she got in the limo she had someone from some radio station recording an interview. She had to ask every time "who are you?" Or "what city are we in now?". She was totally lost lol. |
