Just finished the seventh book in the expanse series (Persepolis rising), onto Crossroads of Twilight by Robert Jordan. This is supposed to be the worst of the Wheel of time books, so i'll just power through it. Where would you recommend a new reader start? Some reader reviews say not to start with New Spring, the prequel, or you will be lost. If starting with book One, on the other hand - where would book Zero best be read?

I haven't read the prequel, and to be honest I probably wont. Start with book 1.

Barriers comic book. Highly recommended. You can get it for free. Or pay the authors. I sorta did both. Greta book though, great artwork and solid alien story. Pseudo enemy mine vibe to a degree. panelsyndicate.com/comics/barrier

Caesar's Last Breath: Decoding the Secrets of the Air Around Us by Sam Kean - a fascinating book about what is in the air we breathe every day, and facts about the elements that it contains. I highly recommend this one for people interested in science, history, and trivia.
It Ended Badly: Thirteen of the Worst Breakups in History by Jennifer Wright - a humorous and tragic look at relationships.
Washington's Spies: The Story of America's First Spy Ring by Alexander Rose - Very interesting hidden history
Mom Said Kill by Burl Barer - a story of a housekeeper who persuaded her children and their friends to kill her employer.
The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs: A New History of a Lost World by Steve Brusatte - once you get past all the complicated dinosaur names, this is a pretty good one.
Next I went back to the last three books in the Monster Hunter Series by Larry Correa (Memoirs, Sinners, Saints) to finish those up - pretty fun reading, great series
Next I thought I'd see what the original books of Michael Chrichton's Jurassic Park and The Lost World were like. Good reads, both of them.
And then I went on with more dark fantasy with the six book White Trash Zombie Series by Diana Rowland - those were a fun read too.
Then I found another book in the Wizard 2.0 series (Out of Spite, Out of Mind) by Scott Meyer
Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk - decent book
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn - all the way through I wondered how it was going to end.
The Elementals by Michael McDowell - there were some truly creepy parts to this horror story
The Demonic: A Supernatural Horror by Lee Mountford - decent horror
Bradford's History of the Plymouth Settlement, 1608-1650 by William Bradford,Harold Paget - this was a good eye opening first hand account of what it was really like.
More at a later date...

Well, I have listened to a ton of books since my last post but this morning I am only going to post the one that left a big impression on me.
I have been meaning to get to Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown for decades and finally did it.
Wow. What horrendous times those were actually for both sides, but there is very little justification for what happened to Native Americans. They were willing to share their knowledge and some of their land, but with bad treatment and continuous breaking of treaties, their way of life was slowly wiped out. Such a sad chapter in history. I would recommend this book highy

The vicious series by ve schwab. Highly recommend that and it's sequel vengeful. This woman is so damn good at writing disparate pieces of the story and having them all come together in the end. And the stories so damn cool. The world now has super powered folks but it's all based on near death experiences and what you were thinking as you died. Like the one guy was consumed by fear and pain he just wanted it to stop so he can control people's pain as well as his own. His best friend just wanted to come back to life so he has a regenerative ability that basically means he's invulnerable.
But ya know other shit goes down too, other people get powers.
Shits hot.

I'm about halfway through 'The Fall of Hyperion' now; it took a while to grab a hold of me as its predecessor did but it has finally happened and I am rapt. I hope the last two books in the series maintain this level of quality. What say you, IanTheCool?

Just read the Raven tower and it was great I must say, interesting perspective from a fantasy book. Particularly with the narrator.
Reading leche's first work ancillary justice.
Daisy Jones and the six just didn't grab my in print, I'm waiting for the audiobook to become available at my local lib.

Its definitely different than the original, but I like the way it wraps things up.
The next book is really good, and has some really interesting concepts which come from how the last book ends, and especially with something from one of the first stories. Expect a new set of characters though, since there is a time jump.

I have not been keeping up with this thread.
Just as an update if anyone cares, I finished the Wheel of Time series. It was a long, hard go of it, but definitely worth it in the end.The last 4 books really pick up steam (book 12 especially).
I'm also trying to catch up on Sherlock Holmes, and read the first two Holmes novels.
I just finished All Systems Red by Martha Wells. Still not sure what to think; may read the sequel to solidify my thoughts further.

The stone sky by nk jemisin. Absolutely brilliant series so far curious if she can end it with as much excitement. Really hope tnt fucks up the tv rights and it goes to someone with a better track record of not completely shitting the bed on all tv shows they've ever produced.
