Finished "It" last night. Pretty good, at least for a while.
Horribly sexist, among other things, but a good read...
Now reading "Among Others" by Jo Walton.

Recently got my library card re upped and signed on to overdrive to get all the audiobooks for work.
Finished the shining girls (again) excellent audiobook, multiple actors.
Reading Mayflower by philbrick, lot more interesting than i knew as usual but the most interesting is about King Phillips war... Always assumed that was the English king. Turns out it's a name given to an Indian sachem in jest that stuck.

American war by omar el akkad
Audiobook at work - meddling kids by some dude... It's like a cross between Scooby Doo and it. Entertaining but written rather strangely.

I had a nice list going and then it got erased, soi will be brief instead of doing all that typing again. If anyone wants to know more about any of these just let me know...
The Ghost Studies New Perspectives on the Origins of Paranormal Experiences - interesting scientific look at the paranormal.
Sapiens A Brief History of Humankind - started well, but got boring.
Memoirs of Vidocq Master of Crime - one of the real life inspirations for Sherlock Holmes
Warnings Unheeded Twin Tragedies at Fairchild AFB - a mentally disturbed soldier on a shooting spree and a overconfident pilot who always pushed the limits of safety.
Smoke Gets in your Eyes and Other Lessons From the Crematory - interesting experience of a worker, along with some creepy information you can't unread lol.
I Contain Multitudes The Microbes Within Us and a Grander View of Life - We're never alone. I'll leave it at that !OK
History's Greatest Military Blunders and the Lessons They Teach - I really enjoyed this series of lectures.
Rabid A Cultural History of the World's Most Diabolical Virus - lots of fascinating history you never think of normally.
The Kolchak Collection - Jeff Rice's two novels, and two other stories by different writers. I wish Rice had written more Kolchak books.

The power by Naomi Alderman.
Only a hundred pages deep but I've been in the wait list at my library for literally months. Highly anticipated and it has so far delivered.
Check it out.
Girls of fifteen have all of a sudden become able to basically shoot electricity out of their hands. Turns the whole world upside down, obviously people are gonna use it in different ways and the 'weaker sex' now has all the advantage in this world. Fascinating ideas.

Recently:
The Butchering Art: Joseph Lister's Quest to Transform the Grisly World of Victorian Medicine By: Lindsey Fitzharris - Very interesting but gruesome history.
Samurai Rising: The Epic Life of Minamoto Yoshitsune By: Pamela S. Turner - wow, what a life.
The Slenderman Mysteries: An Internet Urban Legend Comes to Life By: Nick Redfern - almost anything and everything you'd want to know, and very creepy
The Cadaver King and the Country Dentist: A True Story of Injustice in the American South By: Radley Balko, Tucker Carrington, John Grisham - foreword - its both utterly amazing and appalling how the justice system can be so twisted
H. H. Holmes: The True History of the White City Devil By: Adam Selzer- this guy dug down for the most truthful account of the 'first' serial killer in America.
Operation Long Jump: Stalin, Roosevelt, Churchill, and the Greatest Assassination Plot in History By: Bill Yenne - amazing, I'd never heard of this until I saw this book.
The Bundy Secrets: Hidden Files on America's Worst Serial Killer By: Kevin Sullivan - third in the series, kind of dry, mostly notes from police reports but still never before seen information
List Killer By Anne Rule, Andy Stack - sickening and strange case of a 1960's serial killer I had never heard of before
Lost to the West: The Forgotten Byzantine Empire That Rescued Western Civilization By: Lars Brownworth - lots of great information about the eastern half of the Roman empire.

Storm of Witchcraft: The Salem Trials and the American Experience by Emerson W. Baker If you were ever interested in weeding out the fiction from the reality of the witch trials in New England, this book does a brilliant job dispelling (pun intended) the myth, and researching the facts. Highly recommended. =========
The History of Ancient Egypt By: The Great Courses Narrated by: Professor Bob Brier Ph.D. The University of North Carolina Wonderful amount of interesting information, much of which I did not know. ============
Next I am moving on to ancient Greek history with
The Long Shadow of the Ancient Greek World By: The Great Courses Narrated by: Professor Ian Worthington Ph.D. Monash University

Alright Deexan , I'm finally starting Death's End. Enjoy. I'm going through Hyperion at a snail's pace, still near the beginning... Liking what I'm reading so far though. Well, that was epic. Im not entirely sure I liked the ending. It got very abstract. And depressing. I must say that the fairy tale idea was extremely cool.

Wow ancient Greece was a lot more complex than ancient Egyptian society. There's so much to try to wrap your head around with that one, and I can see how people study specific aspects and barely scratch the surface after years of study.
Next i am in the middle of The History of Ancient Rome By: The Great Courses, Garrett G. Fagan Narrated by: Professor Garrett G. Fagan Ph.D. McMaster University
this is rather fascinating, because you hear the phrase 'Ancient Rome ' and think of Cæsar,Nero, and all of those Emporers, but that's just at the tail end of the years BC and at the beginning of AD. There's a whole bunch of history going back to around 1,000 BC. Starting with Kings and moving on to the creation of the Senate, with their complex voting of temporary leaders to fix specific problems. That was a neat way of doing things and they quickly took over the known world, but it devolved into anarchy when politicians bent the ever evolving system to the breaking point.
Next, I may go into the development of ancient Asian civilizations, and then probably barbarians of the steppes, and Vikings.
