Well, I will say off the bat that your comparison to Tolkien seems hyperbolic.

Ah, I kept forgetting to report. I finished Death's End a week ago.
It was good, but, disappointing in comparison. You said early on that it looked epic, perhaps it was a bit too epic. One of the most epic books I've ever read, and because of that, it was hard to find emotional footing. The good ideas are still there dispersed among the whole book, but perhaps not implemented as well in the first two books. In a way, this isn't even a sequel, but a 600 page epilogue.
Still, I'd give it three stars out of four.
Enjoy page 270, though.

Well, I will say off the bat that your comparison to Tolkien seems hyperbolic. Obviously no-one can match Tolkien, not for me anyway, but this is the most engrossed in a story I've been outside of JRRT's legendarium. Are you on book 2 yet, IanTheCool? 200 pages out of 1280, hah. Jerusalem is definitely a dense novel that I'm taking my time with. Alan Moore has a way with language, that's for sure.

JustinI finally finished Gravity's Rainbow last week. Technically I read 60% of it and then read two film books inbetween, but still it took me a bit to get through. Anyways I loved it and want to read more Pynchon, I can definitely say I've never read anything quite like his style, he's brilliant. I'm probably going to do Inherent Vice after I read a cinematography and directing book I've had for a bit, but after that I'm probably delving hard into Pynchon. After Inherent Vice I'm likely starting at the top with V.

It's really accessible and a fun read. Pynchon's latests works have all been pretty short and entertaining for the most part.

Yeah that's what I've heard, Inherent Vice should be a breeze compared to Gravity's Rainbow.

When my cousin came to visit me a few weeks back his wife left the first Percy Jackson book in my car. I got bored at work and started reading it and now I'm on book 5 the last one.

Oh and I'm still working on Jerusalem after a short hiatus. Picked up The Metamorphosis by Kafka to read on the side.

Its not nearly as interesting. I don't think I understand the sophons very well.

I finished the Three Body Trilogy a couple of weeks ago. Some very interesting takes on human existence in futures both near and very, very far. Fantastic stuff.

To prevent humans from advancing any further technologically to the point of being able to defend themselves/fight back once the Trisolarian fleet arrives a few centuries down the line.
