Finally finished this last night. What a phenomenal season of television. And I hope it stays a standalone season.

There will be no season two. Lindelof doesn’t want to do it, and HBO doesn’t want to do it without him.
or... it could all be a negotiating ploy.

I'm surprised that DC let them make the show with a 1 season plan. They like milking Watchmen lately so I'd have expected them to have more planned.

DC has zero control over movies and TV series based on their comics. Warner Bros. gets to use DC characters, or license them out to other studios, at their pleasure.

I peered into the vastness and saw nothing. Felt nothing.

Or at least not anymore for the last 10 years or so. But even then, it's never been like the relationship between Marvel and the studios it licensed to over decades where they just had a comics division and then film studios made movies based on them with there being no say in between. DC and Warner Bros have always essentially been one in the same since the late '60s, simply going by different names for the different sub parts of a single company (subsidiaries of the Kinney National Company). In fact, DC was apart of the company before Warner Bros. After some monopoly scandals, KNC just decided to adopt the Warner Media name more broadly. Still, they're all the same company. And granted, until recently, it just naturally made sense for a company that owns both a comic line and a movie studio to use said movie studio to adapt its comics to film. But even if you could spout some technicalities that one part of the company wasn't listening to another part of the company, at least as of 2009, everything DC (comics and media) has operated under one umbrella: DC Entertainment, which overlooks all properties under the DC Comics brand and the more recent DC Film, to operate more as a single entity, ala Marvel. So in other words, DC is operated in very much the same fashion as Marvel, and in some ways was even operating in this manner before Marvel. They just haven't had someone like Kevin Feige heading things up. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC_Comics#DC_Entertainment

Btw, shouldn't this thread be in the Television sub-forum seeing as it's not an adaption of a specific comic book?

Someone apparently had the bright idea of recommending to my mother that she watch this... I have thus been fielding various phone calls from her about "what's going on" in it. Explaining who Jeremy Irons' character is to a 71-year-old normie is... difficult. I am not looking forward to when she gets to the time jumping Dr. Manhattan episode.
