I actually haven’t been watching any of the Golden Globes, just looking online every hour so to see who won. I might be talking a big game but I’m more or less over watching awards ceremonies just to listen to rich actors talk down to the rest of us. It sounds like that was a lot more of the same this year and I expect it’s not going to be any different at the Academy Awards. Last year‘s Oscars were beyond painful to watch, I will probably end up watching them again this year but as of right now I might just spend the afternoon with the new kid.

If Gary Oldman doesn't win an Oscar we riot Eh, Timothée Chalamet is really good and Daniel Day-Lewis is getting strong reviews. A lot of these issues have little to do with gender politics and more to do with economics. As I’ve said in the past, if these women want to be to equals or superior they chose the wrong industry. I dont enjoy the hypocritical soapboxiing by Hollywood - the industry that more or less created, and still perpetuates, racial stereotypes by bringing them into our living rooms and lives through television, print media, film, and music. An industry that continues to sexualize and objectify women through and through, then sends out its wealthiest and most elite to talk down to the idiot people who handed their billions over to keep the giant cog turning. It's all disingenuous and outrageous. I'm happy to see people like Harvey Weinstein being thrown out, but he is a villain among thousands. Hollywood needs some humility, and these platitudes from rich people who could easily sell their houses and help Haiti, Houston, and numerous other impoverished or weather-torn areas come across empty and hollow.
That said, I enjoyed Oprah's speech. Like her or hate her, she had a masterful way of encouraging girls and challenging the industry while not coming across as preachy or speaking down to the audience. Unfortunately, Natalie Portman had to do the opposite with her usual bullshit. It's too bad she doesn't answer to anyone who will give her a deserved slap on the wrist.
