I can finish it in that case if you want. It was not an easy list to make. If you're struggling, there IS one Spider-Man movie you can include. It pre-dates the James Cameron one. And no, it's not the one with Michael J. Fox.

I'm not struggling, I have my ten already selected. I just would prefer to write about other things now that I'm halfway through this lol.

Wasn't John Hughes going to make an Ahnuld and Sly movie where they were next door neighbors? That.... could've been a huge piece of entertaining crap.

Sorry for the delay. I was working on this list at work and then I forgot to email it to myself before I left Friday. I'll have at least one entry up tomorrow.
My plan is to bang out a few Marvel lists next before Avengers: Age of Ultron comes out.

5. Alejandro Jodorowsky’s DuneFeaturing an insane set of collaborators, an equally ambitious cast (David Carradine, Orson Welles, Mick Jagger and Salvador Dalì) and actually reaching the point where sets were being planned for construction, Alejandro Jodorowsky’s Dune was set to be either a landmark piece of cinematic science fiction, oftentimes predicted to potentially have done bigger and better things for the landscape of the genre than what 2001 accomplished, or it could have been a trainwreck of epic proportions. Either way, it’s truly a shame that the film was never made. Apparently director Nicolas Winding Refn ( Drive) was once walked through a book of storyboards along with much of the plot and dialogue by Alejandro himself, and Refn’s reaction was that, “It was awesome.” The film was shopped around to every studio around, and they all turned them down. The business side of filmmaking effectively killed what would have been one of the most ambitious films ever crafted. Several members of the creative team behind the film went on to work on Ridley Scott’s Alien, and as a huge fan of that film I would have loved to see another creative effort from the same team (H.R. Giger, Dan O’Bannon, etc.). The bottom line is that Jodorowsky’s Dune is an enormously influential film that just happened to not be ever made.

4. Stanley Kubrick’s NapoleonAt one time, Stanley Kubrick promised that his upcoming film Napoleon would be, “the best movie ever made.” Kubrick was completely obsessed with Napoleon and the film itself probably would have a tremendous exercise in Kubrick’s notorious and meticulous attention to detail. Kubrick believed that a truly great historical film had never been made, and he wanted to change that by telling the entire story of the French Emperor’s entire life. Kubrick had his team literally traveling the world to follow in Napoleon’s footsteps, he read hundreds of books on the man, gathered thousands of location photos and Napoleon imagery, enlisted the help of 40,000 Romanian infantry and 10,000 cavalry to film battle scenes, etc. Kubrick became completely obsessed with this project. He planned to have David Hemmings and Audrey Hepburn play the lead roles, with Alec Guinness and Laurence Olivier as supporting characters, but it all came crashing down when – partly as a result of another Napoleon film, Waterloo, being released in 1970 – studios decided Kubrick's dream was too much of a financial risk. In the early 1980s, he still talked of wanting to make the film, but it wasn't to be. After his death in 1999, it was reportedly offered to Ridley Scott and Ang Lee before eventually landing somewhat recently with Steven Spielberg who has been planning to make a mini-series for HBO utilizing Kubrick’s research and script. It’s interesting to read about Kubrick’s obsessions. I know in the 90’s he was attempting to make a Holocaust film, and in the time he spent researching and indexing facts, Spielberg himself managed to script, cast, direct, edit, and release Schindler’s List. Kubrick is known for his meticulous nature, but saying he’s “meticulous” really doesn’t do the man justice. Napoleon probably wouldn’t have been the greatest film ever made just because that is such a high mountain to climb, but imagine a world where Kubrick , instead of solely making Barry Lyndon in the nine year window between A Clockwork Orange and The Shining, he had also made Napoleon. That would have been something.

Kubrick's "Napoleon" is one of my favourite "what ifs" in film. Napoleon was close to being much higher. I consider these top four to generally be on the same level as each other.

Great stuff on the Napoleon film Torn, my friend and I always use that as an example to describe Kubrick's brilliance in research and dedication to his projects. He went off to make "Barry Lyndon" instead, which in my opinion is his most underrated work and a total masterpiece, but I agree that what could've come with his Napoleon film is amazing. An even larger scale and scope than "Spartacus" but with the poignant beauty in narrative and cinematography displayed in "Barry Lyndon", oh man it would've been a masterpiece.

Barry Lyndon is the worst Kubrick movie. Beautiful movie? Sure. But more boring than watching paint dry. Napoleon would have been a nice boost to his 70's career.

Totally disagree, it was anything but the typically dry and dull period pieces. Barry Lyndon is a fascinating character study and the story is just as interesting as his incredible shots. There's no way you can tell me "Killer's Kiss" is better than "Barry Lyndon". Worst Kubrick film? No way.

The kid from "The Shining" agrees with you, he probably hates Kubrick more than anyone.

Napoleon is the only one on this list I wish had been made.
Also, was this always called 'The Mind of John'? Surely not.

It was 'The King of Lists' for a while to poke fun at Knight's thread, but then I thought it looked too stupid and changed it.

3. Guillermo del Toro's At the Mountains of MadnessI really enjoyed Prometheus when it came out, but I was also somewhat disappointed because it effectively killed (at the time anyway) Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of the H.P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness. The two stories are similar in a lot of ways, although Lovecraft’s is far stronger, more intense and more frightening. I recommend anybody who is even slightly interested to look for Lovecraft’s novel; I’m not going to spend time discussing it for a few reasons – one is that Guillermo is still a younger guy in the field and might end up making this in the future after all, and the second is that it’s a really strong story even if it isn’t adapted and I don’t want to spoil it for somebody who might end up reading the novel. Del Toro got pretty far along with his concept – he had cast Tom Cruise (I don’t know about that one), had a script and the concept art – but Universal backed out because Guillermo was hell-bent on making it R-rated, and it had a budget pushing $150 million. Pacific Rim was a success and he has Crimson Peak coming out this year, I still think it’s possible that Guillermo might be able to secure the financial backing for the film in the future. This is probably the one film on the list that will actually end up being made; I was hesitant to include it on the list because of that, but I just fell in love with the concept so much that I couldn’t exclude it.
