Coca-Cola is laying off over a thousand employees due to declining sales. Are people buying less soda or simply choosing the competitors? I honestly don't see people buying less soda. Anytime I go somewhere to eat I see most people drinking soda. Whenever I go to watch a movie, people are drinking soda. Arena? Stadium? Soda. However, the store brand sodas (depending on where you shop) are pretty good and a litter costs less than a dollar. Schools are cutting back on soda machines. That being said, as I get older, I drink less soda. I take a water bottle to work. At home, I drink various flavors of juice. I only drink soda when I go out to eat. So from my perspective, I don't see a decline in consumption of soda but I understand how Coca-Cola's sales are being affected.
Cherry Coke is one of my favorite sodas, but I tend to only buy it if there's a good deal going on. Like $3-3.50 for a 12 pack or $7.00 for a 24. I'll scoop em right up.
That's the thing, though. Coca-Cola products are rarely on sale compared to other sodas (where I am, anyway). I'm not sure why. More over, sale or not, they're almost always the most expensive in the aisle. As a result, I buy Coke products the least. Not sure if any of this holds relevance to the matter.

If anything I drink more and more soda each year. My soda drinking was kept somewhat under control when I was growing up and my parents would only buy a certain amount but then when I went out into the world that stopped and now I drink something like 4-5 cans of the stuff a week and more on the weekends. Now granted, this is diet soda so I'm not actually taking in any calories and I don't drink coffee or energy drinks at all so in the grand scheme of things this isn't really that much caffeine. I'm sure doctors would tell me this isn't great... but at the end of the day I feel like there so many worse vices to have so I'm not going to sweat over it.

4-5 cans during the week total, or per day per week?

I don't think I was ever a huge soda drinker, but I've cut back pretty consistently. I might have one a week, and sometimes not even that. Its mostly water and coffee for me.

I think I have a problem.
Ah, mistyped there, it's 4-5 a day.

Juice is loaded with sugar, so it's not much better than soda.
I drink way too much diet coke. I need to cut back, but I don't like drinking flat water. In an effort to drink more water I've been buying the flavored/carbonated stuff. It's only sort-of working.

Throughout my twenties I was actually really good at watching what I ate, working out, etc. The past couple years though I've given into the constant temptation of Dr. Pepper, my one true weakness.
Do you guys work out at gyms or at home? I used to frequent 24 Hour Fitness in my youth but did some quick math one day. I cancelled my gym membership and bought about $300 worth of free weights/dumbbells ranging from 10-40 lbs. and those will last me the rest of my life. I picked up a pull-up bar in the meantime so now I have a mean little home gym that I can use to work out pretty much every muscle. If you don't mind putting up some dough up front but want to save a ton of money in the long run I'd recommend doing something similar.

But you get nutrients from juice, unless you're buying the cheap artificial stuff.
Yeah, but even those have a pretty massive amount of sugar in them. Our pediatrician even told us that she didn't understand why so many parents gave their kids so much juice. Even with any nutritional value, its almost all sugar.
I last 20 pounds last year pretty much just because I cut a lot of sugar out of my diet and got my ass of the couch now and again.
I work out every day. I also take a beta blocker every day to control my irregular heartbeat (1.25mg bisoprolol fumerate for those keeping score).
For the longest time, it ruined me - I was 23 years old and taking heart medication on a daily basis. It destroyed my university studies (I was diagnosed the summer before I started). I thought my life was over, and for two years I acted like it was.
Then I was matched up with the most amazing doctor.
He explained to me that I'm going to have to live with this condition for my entire life, but it's not going to kill me. It's not terminal. It's just there.
After he said that, a psychological weight was lifted off my shoulders and now I'm the healthiest I've ever been, despite having to take that goddamn pill every day.
I will probably die young, but because of him I will never be afraid of it. What a fucking legend.

I just bought an elliptical machine last month. I was doing really good about going for morning walks last year, but the weather got shitty and I stopped. My workout focus has always been cardio, but I wouldn't mind doing some light weights to help tone.
Years ago I had a gym membership when I worked next door to the gym, but I cancelled when I started my current job.

All my life I've been drinking about 4-6 cans of Diet Coke per week, which I now hear is a high risk factor for heart complications and/or obesity, more so than regular Coke. I've tried to cut my weekly intake in half because of that, but it's still my favorite beverage. I have been drinking a lot more water to compensate, and feel a lot better for it.
We have a pretty good gym here at the apartments I live at, although I don't go as often as I should. I usually stay later at work and get home around 7 or 8, and it's dinner and TV with the wife, then off to bed. I'll try to squeeze at least one trip during the week, and hit up both weekend days, for at least a half hour of cardio, which is still way less exercise than I should be getting at my age.

I've found a lot of the research around that uncompelling. It's based on a study where mice were given regular soda and diet soda as well as sugary food they could eat and found that the mice drinking the diet soda were more likely to then eat more of the sugary food because of the desire and thus became more obese. The problem there is that that is ultimately a study of behavior more so than actual biology, and humans are smarter than mice. It was kind of a classic case of the press jumping on a single non-replicated study.

I go to the gym 4-5 days a week. I do a lot of upper-body weight lifting, then leg presses/extensions, finished off with a few sets of Battle Ropes. At home, I plank. I'm a fat ass, but I'm looking to shrink down and wear some nice shirts I bought that are too snug in the stomach area right now.
1godzillafan: I want to make a movie in Yugoslavia. I don't think your offer matches my needs. I bid you good day, sir.
