I've watched the first three episodes of the new series so far, and it's pretty great. The basic formula remains unchanged from the classic series. There are a few minor tweaks that are a nice addition, like a freer range of movement in the theater for the bots, Tom Servo in particular. Crow's voice is a near perfect match. Tom Servo's isn't close to the same, but he's gone through changes before. The biggest change is Gypsy. She now has a more natural voice, descends from the ceiling, and occasionally participates in the riffing. If you're an MST3K fan, you'll enjoy. If you've never seen Mystery Science Theater 3000 before, give it a try. The new series is fourteen episodes. There are twenty episodes of the classic series on Netflix, and another twenty-two episodes on the official Mystery Science Theater 3000 Youtube channel.

I can't even describe how excited I am to see the return of MST3k. I never thought I'd see the day it would come back, and nearly peed my pants in excitement.

I was a $200 backer for the Kickstarter and I am mostly pleased with my investment. I have minor quibbles with the final product, but they aren't detracting from my enjoyment. I always knew Patton Oswalt and Felicia Day would make great mad scientists, but I am very pleased with the charisma machines that are Jonah Rey, Hampton Yaunt, and Baron Vaughn. If anybody could pick up MST3K's legacy, I'm glad it's these guys.
I'm seven episodes in, and there are good episodes and lesser ones (Avalanche is a must see), but seeing the show given a second (or fourth) chance is amazing.
Plus through the Kickstarter Joel shared two of the three lost episodes of the series. Regardless of how the show turned out, I consider it an investment worth spending on that alone.

Good to hear. I figured it was likely to happen, considering how cheap the show is to produce when compared to others, but you never know.
I was shocked yesterday when their marathon ended after the six episodes ran. Last year, they ran the marathon all weekend. I only got to see Warriors of the Lost World. I was too busy with Thanksgiving to see the rest.

Some fans were getting nervous, because around the time Netflix was preparing to air the new season they started getting more bullish about canceling shows. There was some concern that our fan Base was too small to see a significant subscription bump that Netflix likes, in addition to the fact that it's not really a show that lends itself to "binge-watching" very well. I know some people refusing to binge and only watching one a month to "savor" it. That's all well and good, but they need numbers.
Though on the flip side, hilariously there were some people sweating bullets when MST didn't appear on the top 24 hour bingewatch season shows list Netflix released. Sure technically it's possible to watch all fourteen in a single day, but I dare you to try. I see season seven being feasible, with six episodes and all, but anything else would probably kill me. It's a 90 minute show, for crying out loud.
That said, I think Netflix is in a position to keep as a many loyal fan bases as they can, because they're likely to lose all new seasons of the Marvel shows in a few years as well as House of Cards falling out of grace. A cheap show like MST with such a loyal following is starting to sound more appealing.
But even if Netflix ever drops it, I wouldn't put it past Hulu or Amazon to pick it up. Hell, Shout Factory is getting into funding projects themselves, so they could release the series on a premium version of their own streaming platform and they could totally pull a Star Trek: Discovery "pay to watch" hook on us. I think MST was always safe, whether Netflix was interested or not.

Season 12 debuts on November 22. TURKEY DAY! As it should be! They did a great job selecting movies last season. As much as I love every episode of MST3K, sometimes the DEEP HURTING is nigh impossible to take, and I wind up having to pause the movie and take a break. The mind-numbing dullness of flicks like Manos: The Hands of Fate or The Starfighters can be a bit much.

I got my fingers crossed for Turkey Day bumpers, but that might be asking too much.
Apparently the episodes are going to have a binge them. I wonder if there is a Thanksgiving plotline running through them.

Five of the six movies of this season have apparently been leaked. They are: Mac and Me Atlantic Rim Lords of the Deep The Day Time Ended Ator (presumably the original) The first film makes sense, since Shout Factory own the rights. If it winds up being true, it will be the most mainstream film that's been riffed since This Island Earth. For the second, it will be interesting to finally see a movie from The Asylum. I'm aware of them by reputation, but have never gotten around to viewing any of their stuff, aside from occasionally stumbling across them while channel surfing in the days when I still had cable. Roger Corman, especially his later work, really knew how to get a lot out of a small budget, so number three has potential. Micro-budget indie flicks usually involve DEEP HURTING. I fear the fourth possibility. The return of a film series from the original show is a great idea.

Rifftrax riffed Ator last year, so I'm less excited about that one than some of the others, despite it being the prequel to an earlier film in the series. One last thing to note about season 12: last season was titled "The Return," this season will be titled "The Gauntlet." I'm assuming the story arc of the season will have Kinga throwing this films at Jonah one after another in a binge-a-thon. Should be fun.

The season 12 trailer confirms all of the titles, as well as listing the previously unnamed one as Killer Fish.

Watched up until the first host segment on Mac and Me. So far I will say that this season feels like it has learned a few lessons from the last season. The riffs have much more room to breathe and the host segments feel closer to the original show. Moon 13 feels more like a set than just a closeup of Max and Kinga and Cambot moves around on the SOL a bit more. The only WTF moment so far is that when Gypsy drops the payload both Waverly and Growler appear for no reason then disappear. It's nice to know they're in the new season, but that was pointless.
I need to quit for the night because I have stuff to do tomorrow, but I would totally watch the rest if I had a choice.

Still not finished with the episode, but I just want to say every time Eric references seeing "a little creature" I'm like "HE SAW THE LITTLE CREATURE!"
NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Oh, of course. It's an 80's ET ripoff so they HAD to work in "Cheif?" "McCloud!"

Welp, they finally made a Three's Company reference on a movie with Priscilla Barnes in it and she's not even in the scene.

Season is now thoroughly binged. I don't think there was a genuine home run this year, such as Avalanche or Wizards of the Lost Kingdom, but there are some solid entries here. Mac and Me and Ator are both standouts, and I quite dug Killer Fish and Atlantic Rim also. The Day Time Ended was a bit uneven but had some great belly laughs, while Lords of the Deep was mostly low key and fair. Oh yeah, and we had the one cameo I was hoping for more than any other, way more than Mike, Trace, or Frank!
Until next season! Hopefully that cliffhanger means Kinga and Max are in the theater for the next premiere! Let's get this fucker renewed so we can find out!

Joel just confirmed in a backer update that Netflix has cancelled MST. But he remains positive about the show returning on another streaming service.
It was clear after season 12 that it disn't fit Netflix's binge model anyway, so I'm not broken up about it. A weekly release schedule on a service like Hulu would be much better for the series.
