The original Burt Reynolds, Longest Yard, is pretty good. The Adam Sandler version is pretty much a shot-for-shot remake except for the comedy and the lack of 1970’s-era racial commentary. Yeah, that’s right, they shoehorned in “a message” in a silly Burt Reynolds movie from the 70’s. But like I said, it’s really good nonetheless. This was Reynolds during his heyday as a charming Hollywood star and they surround him with a good cast and an easy-to-root-for sports story.

North Dallas Forty with Nick Nolte is, well, it’s something. It’s basically an anti NFL movie, but its criticism of the sport is based on an era when someone like Nick Nolte could play in the NFL, so its critique doesn’t actually make sense in 2021. It’s not Concussion with Will Smith, but it’s something. But it’s funny how Nick Nolte was Nick Nolte even in the 70’s. Like, how did that man ever get a job in Hollywood? lol.
