Riverdale (CW)

It's on my DVR. Haven't watched it yet.

It's a WB/CW show. It is what it is. Josie and the Pussycats are on the show and word is that Sabrina the Teenage Bitch will show up later in the season, so hopefully, it'll get cheesier. For now, it's just Dawson's Creek meets Veronica Mars with Archie characters.

If I gave a pair of fetid dingo's kidneys about Archie Comics, I'd probably find this horrifying.  As it is, Riverdale looks like just another in a long line of generic YA shows featuring a bunch of twenty-somethings as High Schoolers. 

After watching the trailer for Riverdale and reading what it's about, I was reminded of a movie that had pretty much the same set of premises called Pretty Maids All In A Row (1971).

I'm not sure if it's like the current run, but a lot of classic children's characters have undergone some major shifts during the past year.  Scooby Doo is taking place during an Apocalypse, The Wacky Races are held in a Mad Max style post-apocalypse dystopia, and Archie has gone through some sort of reboot.  I don't know exactly what it is, since I don't read it.  I've seen the covers at the store though, and they've thrown out the traditional art style entirely.  I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it's story is comparable the show.

Finally gave this a shot and am now all caught up.  Pretty rough for the first two episodes, but then it picked up.

Hashtag Guilty Pleasure

It's better than it should be.  It's at its best when it leans more into the murder mystery/crime aspects, but the personal aspects of it have gotten better.  I'm interested in the Sabrina spin-off, too, though.

It's also become a good CW drama.  SO FAR, they've avoided one typical trope, but it's still early.
