I don't get it. There's already a big 4K release of this which includes a decent number of the special features being ported over to this (and some that aren't being ported over, though it's a little hard to tell from the press release). It's not a movie in need of restoration and it's not something that needs attention brought to it. You're mostly just paying for the logo.

Maybe its more about establishing a relationship with Disney which may lead to more obscure stuff from their conglomerate blob.

I mean, they already have a relationship with Disney, they've released several 20th Century Fox movies post-merger like The Flight of the Phoenix, Miller's Crossing, and the original Nightmare Alley.

My wife's cousin is getting married in a couple months. He's a big movie fan, not sure if he's dipped his toe into Criterion collecting but I thought I would pick a couple and give them to him as a personal gift (in addition to whatever practical wedding present my wife wants to give). I'm trying to think of a couple good, not terribly obvious flicks that he might want to watch. Any thoughts? They don't have to be wedding-related, just aiming for quality but not super popular. Update: I picked up a couple that are definitely going in the package but I have room for a third. I want to keep it romance-themed and I'm mulling between Brief Encounter, The Lady Eve (one I just watched and thoroughly enjoyed) and His Girl Friday. Any of you care to push me in any particular direction?

I was thinking the same with Brief Encounter. Really good movie but I something felt off about giving them a movie about a woman having an affair. I'll go with His Girl Friday since The Lady Eve would mean doubling up on Barbara Stanwyck with Double Indemnity. Not that it's a bad thing, just for the sake of variety.

Anyway, I made my feelings about Criterion's recent output known on Twitter... it's not going well for me. Fuck it. Account locked, tweets deleted. One of the guys who blasted Drac for his Criterion tweet is now getting told to kill him self for tweeting that he liked a scene in Avatar. Circle of life.

I don't have my own Twitter but I'd be more than happy to respond to his tweets with a fake account with horrible and borderline offensive takes. Guys like that feel compelled to respond, they can't ignore.

They tweeted lightening bolts. That could signal that a flash sale is imminent.
