The Falcon shot absolutely reeked of Abrams. In fact I may have said his name out loud the first time I saw it. However, the chick on the speeder was a complete nod to Lucas.
X-Wings flying low over water?
My fav shot was probably the red lightsabre w/voiceover.
2015 is gonna be so much fun. The force is with us..

The cockpit POV made me go "ooooh hey this is Star Wars." Favorite part hands down. Because Cumberbatch has been rumored for a role, and with his previous ties to Abrams it seemed plausible. Yeah. Everyone thought it was Cumberbatch. The internet run amok, I see.

Prepare to see a LOT of battles over ground that used to be in space. Look at what he did with the Enterprise.

I think the Stormtrooper scene was one of the best scenes of the teaser. It adds a gritty, war movie, feel to the film. The Battle of Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back gave me that same feeling as well. It's funny you should say that, because I always thought so many scenes in the PT should have felt that way. It was all too obviously phony, and the camera shots played it far too safe. It didn't help choosing to make all the clone troopers CGI, for some really dumb reason. Not to mention that the battle droids were anything BUT menacing or a threat in any way. I could never figure out how robots had such horrible aim. You would think they'd have some sort of aiming system in them that would make them more accurate than a normal human. Not so in George's world.

Just more things to make the PT family friendly, and to give the Jedi something to slice. The robots were dumb (literally), and it was okay to see them get chopped up.

Not so in George's world. There was nothing gritty about TPM. It's the most underwhelming of all 6 current Star Wars films and it's only redeeming factors are Darth Maul, pod-racing, Liam Neeson, and Ian McDiarmid. Elements of TPM that did not work: Battle droids, anorexic Yoda, the introduction of Jar Jar Binks, Gungans, the Queen/Padame' surprise reveal, young Anakin saves the day, unfinished C-3PO, final ground battle. Worst Star Wars movie... ever.

Now just put guards under the cross bar (not on top) and you have a serviceable hilt the will protect you hands and won't cut off your appendages.

This is star wars so there has to be some type of space battle or cool space scene somewhere.

I cannot believe all this fuss over a few second look at an early look of a sith saber which may never appear that way in the final film. Lots of tease scenes seldom are used for the first full trailer is key which may give more idea of jedi plot and the dark side.

People know they are cross guards. Normal crossguard however don't cut through everything they touch.
I studied broadsword stage combat in school. While not the same as actual combat but I can't tell you how many times I got hit and bruised by my own hilt or used it for leverage against an opponent. It's nots practical when the material can slice off your fingers.
A better design would to have a guard running under cross bars only. The top protects the user and the guard protects the user for his own weapon. Problem solved.

I'm sure that mysterious sith - who's Adam Driver, by the way - has enough training and experience to not cut himself.

If that's the case it will have to be all offense because he's going to have to make sure his opponent never gets the chances to push the hilt into him with no counter leverage possible.

That image makes me want to punch the person who made it.
Also, someone explain to me really how much a cross-guard would have even helped in these situations:
The lightsaber sliding down the blade into the opponents hand(s) never happened in any of these fights. The only feasible one is the final Anakin vs Dooku fight, which two side blades would have prevented Anakin from grabbing Dooku's arms as easily. But they also would have prevented Dooku from being as agile and twirly.
Which of course is one of the main points. If any of these characters had this special cross-guard, they also would have cut their own hands off from all the special twirling they were doing. As Knerys pointed out, with cross-guards in place on a real sword, it can result in bruising and/or abrasions on your own wrists. With a lightsaber cross-guard, however, you're going to get a lot more than a bruise.
Maybe it will have some other use or uses. The smaller ones could possibly be turned off for more active fights. Maybe Abrams is going back to the slower, heavy-feeling sword fighting of the OT. Even then, though, having two smaller lightsabers near your wrists seems like a bad idea.
Needless to say it will be interesting to see how it is used in combat.

Offensively it could be very effective. But you'd have little margin for error. I also wonder if this was planned and the world is just one big focus group for the production.

I am not convienced its a jedi or sith weapon. Which i am certains it an inquisitors weapon so question is it must be made different in his job to kill whom ever the empire wants because he is a assassin more so then a knight.

I'm actually more so concerned with whether or not Abrams is trying to reinvent the lightsaber entirely. Yes, the cross-guard version is odd, but I'm hoping this is a unique Sith blade entirely, what with it's firey looking effects. I read an article pointing out that if you were wanting to create a lightsaber more "realistically", it would probably look more ablaze, as it does in this trailer.
I honestly don't give a crap about the more "realistic" nature of the science behind these blades. These films are also still quite heavy in the fantasy genre. In my opinion, if they were going to make all the lightsabers not have a solid looking beam of light, as they should be in accordance with the previous films, it would be akin to M. Night wanting to change the pronunciation of certain words and names in The Last Airbender, because it was "more accurate".
