While that's probably true (I know we do at my theater), sadly most locations are contracted to show 3D in a certain number of houses/shows, so there's not even always a choice. For the first run anyway. And unfortunately IMAX will almost always be 3D if it is made in 3D.

I'm not saying 3D is excluded. I'm saying that theaters aren't screening 2D in their shitty auditoriums. That may be the case in theaters that aren't fully digital yet, but theaters that are fully digital, screen 2D in their largest auditorium because that's what audiences are paying for.

I'm definitely seeing this in 3D, I don't do 3D often but I will do it for big releases I'm excited for like this and The Hobbit. If the new Mad Max doesn't turn out crappy I'll see that in 3D.

I really enjoy 3D IMAX as well. I hate regular 3D theatres though with a passion

True, you can tell that the 3D was tacked onto some theaters, especially relatively older ones. It doesn't translate as well and the seating arrangements just feel a little bit off.

Yeah, I'd like to see this in our brand new VIP theater, but they always play the 3D versions there. Bleh.

I don't understand why you guys complain about 3D, all big movies that come out in 3D also come out in 2D... Fine me local showings of IMAX 2D and I'll stop complaining. I'm going to have to see a new fucking Star Wars movie in a normal theater. I'm not happy about that.

Just think how pissed you would be if you died the day before the premiere and didnt get to see it at all.

Man this movie makes me so pumped... To have a Star Wars movie to look forward to again is something I didn't think would happen anytime soon, Episode 7 was a pipe dream a couple of years back.

Hard to believe Brienne From Tarth from Game of Thrones is the Crome Storm Trooper. Dont wanna seem sexist but looks like a male storm trooper by the get up. But suppose thats a surprise later when its revealed there best trooper is a women.

It's sad that Episode III was by far the best of the bunch.

What if this new series of films is just as horrible as the prequels? Do we have to pretend these never happened either or just stop being SW fans at that point?

There's no way this movie will be as bad as the prequels.

It's sad that Episode III was by far the best of the bunch. I actually would argue Phantom Menace was the best of the prequels. Now, obviously best is an extremely relative term, but at least Phantom was shot on actual sets and locations, and wasn't the CGI acid trip Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith were. Phantom Menace also has the very well-choreogrpahed lightsaber fight set to John Williams' excellent score. The movie is still ass, but it does have some positives.

I think episode 7 can be a very big movie for its the first sequel to Return Of The Jedi and The Original Series.

I've only seen Episodes II and III once, in the theaters, and have had no desire to revisit them since (though I might in preparation for this one just for shits). I watched Episode I multiple times because I was 9 when it came out and couldn't understand why people thought it sucked (but I learned, oh, I learned) but even at 12 I was disgusted at how terrible Episode II was, which I still feel is the worst of the series. Episode III had some... moments I suppose, and had a darker edge to it than the first two, but trust me I didn't walk away from Episode III satisfied either. You are right, the lightsaber battle in Episode I is probably the best of the whole series, originals included, so it does have that. Episode II was just a completely jumbled mess of really bad ideas, and the execution of these bad ideas is even worse. I'm trying to convince my friends to run through one of the movies a month before Episode VII, starting with the prequels. None of them were receptive to the idea.

Yeah, I think it might break $30 mil in its opening weekend! Wouldn't that be something! (Seriously, Vader makes it way, way too easy)

I'd be down provided we do it over two nights. The first night, we watch the prequels while drinking. The second, we do the originals sober and enjoy them as films. I'm not seeing we need to be plastered for the first night, but a good drink makes it easier to watch something and laugh at it.
