I just finished watching the pilot episode of The Tick on Amazon Prime. What a total cluster fuck. This show doesn't know what it wants to be. One minute it's attempting lighthearted comedy, then it switches to dark comedy, next it's going for serious drama. It was beyond awful. What really horrifies me is that for a great many Amazon Prime subscribers, this crappy show will be their first (and probably last) exposure to an incredibly entertaining bunch of characters from a really funny guy. What a waste.

I didn't even like what they did with the costume.

While it wasn't the original comic, cartoon or the short lived live action hilarious. I did enjoy it. Ben Edlund did write this. It seems to still parody the origin story superhero movie/tv show. Instead though it makes it the sidekick Arthur's origin story. Peter Serafinowicz does a great job with the hilarious lines that are definitely only Tick's logic and explanation. I'd like to see where this is going.

I liked it. Give it time, Arthur just got the suit.

I finally started watching the series. I'm liking it. The characters are great, the satire is dry and brilliant.

At least the suit looks better now than it did in the pilot.

I needed something short to watch at work this week, and decided to check out episode two. It was better than the pilot, although that isn't saying much. I didn't hate it.

Oh man I love this show. My buddy told me to check it out. I never watched the 90's show or read the comics but this show is easily of the best on Amazon.
Is the old tv show as good as this one? or the cartoon?

The animated series is everything The Tick is meant to be, without the producers having to worry about a visual FX budget.

While the humor was more up front and it was sillier in the first live action I think this one isn't completely different with the humor. It still makes a good satire on the genre. It's just doing it differently due to superhero movies being taken seriously. The whole interaction between Overkill and The Tick is very funny. Plus Lint is a great character.

Count me in the camp of those who like this better than the previous. While to an extent I liked the cast of the 2001 series better, it was a bit scaled down to the point that it was pretty much just a one-room sitcom with superheroes. This new series takes the modern style and scope of superhero films and lets The Tick barrel through it, and I am loving it so far.
That animated series though...that's fucking classic right there. Can't be touched.

I finished the series today, and I have to say that I enjoyed it. Amazon was clearly trying to do something different with this latest version of The Tick, and after a rocky start, it worked. I learned the other day that the cut of the pilot that's on Amazon now is different from the original. I'll have to check that out as well. Maybe the new edit works better than the preview version.
The character development was an unexpected plus. Previous incarnations of The Tick didn't really have any character development. It just wasn't that kind of show.

I rewatched the pilot episode of The Tick this week. It's still not very good on it's own, but it's necessary for the season as a whole. All of the serious character exposition is gotten out of the way at once, so that the rest of the episodes can operate under the assumption that the viewer already knows all the downer stuff.
This is the aspect of online TV that is a vast improvement over broadcast TV. The broadcast networks have to dumb down stories and repeat information constantly so that new viewers can understand the latest episode. Online TV doesn't worry about people jumping into a series halfway through season three, since they can always start at the beginning.

Amazon has cancelled The Tick after the second season. Showrunners are trying to shop it around.
