While it's been a long time since I watched it, if memory serves, the first season of the show took itself seriously. It wasn't until season two that the show got goofy. Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...It's true season one was a bit less...silly than seasons two or three, but I don't think "serious" is the right word for it. I think the most stone faced it ever was were the first five episodes, which might have been because they were working around the cannibalized original pilot episode footage. Immediately after that in episode six they gave us a fucking space cowboy. I'd say that first season was still stuck in a Rocky Jones type of sci-fi show in an awkward point where the genre was struggling to break free into something like Star Trek. There were some well done dramatic episodes mixed in with some wildly bizarre ones. Then as soon as the show switched to color it mostly went straight for the latter, embracing the fantasy aspect and letting go of any semblance of "reality." Yeah, we're talking the fantastical world of Irwin Allen. With a handful of props and cheesy special effects he took us to all kinds of weirdness. I was glued to the tv for this, Land of the Giants, and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. I think I'm about four episodes in to this remake, and so far it's more like Marooned in Space. Oh, by the way, in the original series - there is no Four Corners, VT. We were in the sticks uphere, but it wasn't "Hooterville" hahaha.

I was glued to the tv for this, Land of the Giants, and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Oh indeed. I think I owe Irwin Allen my entire love of kitschy 60's TV shows, since I grew up watching Lost in Space, Land of the Giants, and Time Tunnel in the mornings before school every day. I remember Lost in Space the best, since I usually missed half of the others due to waking up so early and/or sleeping in, but those shows were something else. I bought the blu-ray set last year. I finished rewatching the first season, but never got around to the rest. I really should finish it. As for the new show, I've been busy with my blog so it's been on the backburner. I've watched half of the first episode and thought it was fine. I'm not too into Netflix's television show format, as I prefer episodes to stand alone far better in TV shows (though if they build to something greater that's wonderful), but it was well made and the cast seemed good.

Some friends and I just breezed through the first three episodes.
That first episode is slow as fuck (not to mention over an hour long), but by episode two we were totally into it. Can't wait to finish it.
