Jibbs Doomsday PG Cooper SnoBorderZero thebtskink DeexanI guess I must have been asleep in 2013. That Rick Reuben album they did is really good. Anyway, I've been on a 70's Sabbath binge. I wanted to listen to one song... and I ended up listening to everything. Good stuff.

I posted it before but I saw them in 2013, great great concert. They're coming back to LA in September, hopefully this latest Ozzy drama doesn't affect it.
Some of my fav Sabbath songs outside of their popular hits:

My favourite Sabbath era is the Dio years. Heaven and Hell is a perfect album.

Blasphemy. Nothing generic about Dip. You guys also prefer Sammy Hager over David Lee Roth, so... True, the "I ain't got nobody" song with DLR is one of the worst songs/performances ever put to modern music. BOZEY BOZEY BOP, ZITTY BOP!!

Maybe so, but that doesn't make him a better singer. Dio has a tremendous range and a powerful voice. Beyond that, instrumentally the work on Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules are excellent as well and the majority of tracks from both albums are awesome.

True, Ozzy has no range whatsoever. But post-Ozzy Black Sabbath is just a poor man's AC/DC.

True, Ozzy has no range whatsoever. But post-Ozzy Black Sabbath is just a poor man's AC/DC. I can't tell if you're serious or trolling. LOL. But for real, Heaven & Hell sounds generic. Again, maybe I just don't know the history. Maybe they predated everything. But it just sounds like average 80's metal. Sabbath in the 70's were unique. There really wasn't another band that sounded like them.

Like I said, I don't know the history of Dio. That guy could have been singing that way since the 60's, but as far as I know, it just sounds like the typical 80's rocker voice. Going from Ozzy, who has a very unique voice to that, is just jarring. It's the same shit that happened to Van Halen. They went from David Lee Roth, who has a unique style, to Sammy Hagger who's another generic 80's rocker voice. I don't have anything against Rio or Hagger. On their own, I'm sure they're good if the song is right, but when they're following in the footsteps of people who left a mark, it just doesn't really work. Range or no range, Sabbath was just better in the 70's with Ozzy as the lead singer.

Also the comparison to Van Hager is a litte innacurate given the primary reason that era sucked is all around. In some respects I don't even fully blame Sammy (though I prefer DLR by a mile). I'll grant you that Ozzy and Dio's styles are very different and that a change is jarring, but that doesn't make the the latter generic or bland. Hell, the dude is a Metal icon who had a successful solo career after Sabbath AND before Sabbath was the lead singer for Richie Blackmore's Rainbow (which was also pretty awesome).
