Deadpool 2 is now releasing May 18th. I suppose that's good for us film geeks, but I'm not convinced it makes sense financially. I feel like putting it under Infinity War's second weekend makes less sense than Solo's second weekend, in addition to now being sandwiched between the two.

This is a flashback to 2006 when X-Men: Last Stand turned out better than Superman Returns. So now, Fox is on damage control and doing very last minute reshoots on Deadpool 2 to try and save it.

First Class was okay at best, largely in part due to that everything in it was terrible outside of McAvoy and Fassbender. Apocalypse, on the other hand, even they couldn't save. I did really enjoy DOFP, though. It's fair to wonder about Dark Phoenix, but not really due to those previous films in the franchise. As the creative teams behind the movies continually change, anything can happen, for better or worse. One thing we have to go by, though, is that Simon Kinberg hasn't directed any movies before and produced a lot of bad and mediocre ones. Doesn't exactly fill me hope, but I'll still see the movie and try to keep any expectations down to a minimum. |
