My god that San Diego sequence was terrible.
Nothing in III approached that level of terrible.

INT. STEVEN SPIELBERG'S OFFICE - NIGHT
Steven sits at his desk. His office clock reads 11:53pm. Coffee cups and loose papers are scattered on the floor. Sleeves rolled up, tie loosened and glasses crooked, he places his face in his hands in frustration. Sitting before him on his desk are script pages. Red pen marks strike through several lines on each page, notes filling up almost all margins. His hand trembling, Steven picks up his telephone and slowly dials the numbers. Tears stream down his face as he hears the RINGING on the other end.
GEORGE (V.O.) I was wondering when I would be getting this call.
STEVEN How...how did you know it was me?
INTERCUT - STEVEN SPIELBERG AND GEORGE LUCAS
George is sitting in a large leather chair. A roaring fireplace blazes while a young Lucasfilm intern orally pleasures him.
GEORGE Is it the JP script?
STEVEN I just don't know what to do. This third act, it's killing me.
GEORGE Then you need to give the audience something to remember.
STEVEN I already have the T-Rex doing stuff.
GEORGE But is he doing stuff....in a city?
STEVEN That makes no sense. It takes place on an island.
GEORGE Who said it has to make sense?
Steven sits silently.
GEORGE (CONT'D) Those pages aren't going to write themselves, Stevie.
STEVEN (sobbing) Only my mother calls me Stevie.
GEORGE Because you're a little girl, that's why. Now write the damn ending.
STEVEN What...what city?
GEORGE I hear San Diego is nice this time of year.

There is about 3 seconds of the San Diego sequence shot from the inside of a Blockbuster. The fake movie posters are amusing.
Schwarzenegger in King Lear is my favorite of the three.

Dinosaurs are cool again. Jurassic World grossed a record $204 million this weekend. It made more money in 3 days than Mad Max: Fury Road has in a month. Chris Pratt and his pet raptors could surpass The Avengers to become the biggest hit of the summer. This is the second summer in a row where Pratt rules the box office. This guy is sooooo the new Indiana Jones. Expect an official announcement within the next 6 months. This guy is sooooo the new Indiana Jones. Expect an official announcement within the next 6 months. The thought of that sickens me. Maybe he could get away with it if he actually tried to stretch his range, but if he plans to stick to his lovable oaf schtick... just, no. Anyway, I haven't seen it yet so maybe I shouldn't judge, but, really? This thing just looks so... ordinary.

Drac will either hate it with a passion or give it (what I personally would consider) a complete pass. I don't think there will be any middle ground.

more tickets than Avengers is insane. We'll know for sure in the long run. Jurassic World benefited from kids being on summer vacation.

I'm curious as to whether or not Furious 7 is going to manage to surpass The Avengers for the #3 slot on the worldwide box office list. For a while there, it looked like a sure thing, but now it's looking less certain. F7 is only about $7 million behind, but it's about petered out. It only made about $1 million this weekend worldwide, so unless there's a major country that it hasn't been released in yet, The Avengers is likely to hold on to it's position for a bit longer.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens will surpass both. If Jurassic World made this much money, brace yourself for Star Wars. I wouldn't be surprised if The Force Awakens becomes the second movie to gross $2 billion worldwide.

And people say theater-going is dead... It usually is. Cinema survives because of the handful of movies that people are willing to pay for. We're 6 months into 2015 and there has only been 4 giant hits: American Sniper, Furious 7, The Avengers: Age of Ultron and now Jurassic World. The other 280 movies that Hollywood has released in theaters so far this year haven't made a difference. We all loved Mad Max: Fury Road but that movie will barely break even at the box office.
