Mel Gibson isn't dead or retired. Get the Gringo was awesome and he's directing a new movie. Get The Gringo was great. I have faith we'll be seeing a lot more of Mel soon.

Jurassic World opens this Friday and it's expected to be a big hit, but will it be able to challenge Jurassic Park? Probably not. The original film in this mediocre franchise is one of the most successful movies of all-time. It grossed $357 million domestically in 1993. That's almost $700 million when adjusted for inflation. Avatar is the only film in modern times that made that much money. The Avengers came close but not close enough. And both of those movies had premium ticket prices to help them out. Jurassic Park did it the old school way. In 1993, the average ticket price was $4.14 and there was no high-speed internet and DVR's to compete with theaters. Jurassic Park opened on Thursday, June 10th. Today is the 9th, so that was approximately 22 years ago. And it grossed a 4-day weekend total of $50 million, which is $98 million when adjusted for inflation. Jurassic World is actually expected to make more than that but, as stated before, there's premium pricing these days. The real challenge will be if the movie has legs or not. Jurassic Park was #1 for 3 weeks and afterwards remained in the Top 10 for 13 weeks. What's also important to note is that Jurassic Park was in theaters until October of 1994. That's unheard of these days because local dollar theaters no longer exist - at least in most places. So what are your box office predictions for Jurassic World? And if you're old enough, what are your memories of Jurassic Park's theatrical run? Did you see it in theaters? Did you see it opening weekend or later on? Did you see it at your local dollar theater? What was the audience reaction? Do you still have your ticket stub? If so, post it. Jurrasic World also has an embargo on it with no reviews coming in.... so that tells us a lot... how good it will be, sigh. I hope I'm wrong but I have a bad feeling this is bad news.

I remember going to see Jurassic Park when I was 8 years old. My parents had an argument in the driveway because my mom thought it would be too scary for me to see and my dad thought I would like it. He won because he's a man and of course I thought it was amazing.
As for Jurassic World, I think I'm the only one who couldn't care less about it. I'll see it eventually but I'm not way excited about it like some people are for some reason. Why are people so amped for it? The first one was great but the second was pretty sketch and the third one was dogshit. Why are we looking forward to this so much?

my mom thought it would be too scary I remember in school everyone loved the scene where the guy is in the toilet and gets eaten by a T-Rex. That's my only nostalgic memory about Jurassic Park. Because this is the sequel we should have gotten in 1997.

For shits and giggles, lets look at The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Despite its reputation for being a disappointing sequel, it did really well at the box office. It ended up being the 3rd highest grossing film of 1997 with $229 million, which is $405 million when adjusted for inflation. Now that I think about it, it will be interesting to see if Jurassic World makes that much money. The film opened on Memorial Day Weekend and grossed $92 million, which is $164 million in today's money and slightly higher than the projected opening gross for Jurassic World. However, The Lost World: Jurassic Park didn't have strong legs. In its third weekend it was dethroned by Con Air. That's right. The Nicolas Cage classic ( Deexan Doomsday SnoBorderZero ). And in its 4th weekend it made less money than Con Air AND Speed 2: Cruise Control. I hate to confess that I saw Speed 2: Cruise Control in theaters. The fact that Keanu Reeves wasn't in the movie should have been a HUGE sign. Then in its 5th weekend it was outgrossed by Batman & Robin, My Best Friend's Wedding, and Con Air. Speed 2: Cruise Control was such a big joke that it went from #1 to #5 in only a week. Anyway... by its 9th week, The Lost World: Jurassic Park was out of the Top 10 and it was completely out of theaters by October. Compare that to Jurassic Park which was in the Top 10 for 16 weeks and in theaters for 16 months. So while it's unrealistic to expect Jurassic World to compete with Jurassic Park, it might have a shot of equaling or surpassing The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

Heh, Speed 2, that movie looks so awful. I think Ebert liked that movie.
Yeah it's not gonna make the money the original did, but enough time has passed since the third film that I think this has potential to be up there with Lost World. Reviews have been alright, not great but not bad either, so it could have 2 or 3 nice weeks at the box office.

Reviews have been alright. FShuttari was bitching about the reviews but they're fine. 70% at Rotten Tomatoes. www.rottentomatoes.com/m/jurassic_world/Jurassic World can't match the original for sheer inventiveness and impact, but it works in its own right as an entertaining -- and visually dazzling -- popcorn thriller.

Deexan Doomsday Dracula @dukeleto frankyt Frizzo the Clown FShuttari IanTheCool iverdawg Ewok Droppings Jibbs Nilade PG Cooper PhantomKnight RedStorm901 Seakazoo SnoBorderZero thebtskink WyldstaarI remember seeing Jurassic Park in the Orange Cinedome, which was torn down at the end of the 90s and turned into The Block, a thriving outdoor shopping center with a huge AMC theater. If I remember correctly, evening ticket prices around Orange County back then were about $6, while you could catch a matinee for $4. Luckily, some friends of mine had started standing in line earlier that day, because when I showed up, the line went all the way down the street. I, along with everyone else in the audience, as indicated by the "oohs" and "ahs", were amazed the first time the dinos came on the screen. No one had ever seen anything like that yet (a completely CGI creation), and it was the most amazing thing in cinema since the T-1000. Ah... the good old days of event movies. While standing in line could be a pain, it was also great to make an entire day of it. But, I won't complain. It's now the age of reserved seating, and I'm ok with that.

Jurassic World made $82.8 million yesterday. What. The. Fuck. If people are this willing to see whatever mediocrity that has the word "Jurassic" in the title why wasn't Jurassic Park 3 a bigger hit?

The whole San Diego sequence made a mediocre film into a joke. The last 20 minutes were horrible.
