Sweet. I think the creators said they wanted 5 seasons so this probably confirms that they'll get to finish it.

I liked the finale as setup, but not really as a finale. :/

Wasn't a fan of the finale, and thus I think I'm pretty ho-hum on this season as a whole as well. We've taken a step down after each season, and this was just lacking in intrigue and execution. As much as running around in the contemporary world was fun, it just doesn't hold a candle to what we witnessed in the park in the first two seasons.
Season Three presents a lot of very interesting ideas, from technology phasing out humans who can't assimilate to the ever-changing new world to what gives a person/host actual value and purpose, but it doesn't fully come together either. Dolores making copy after copy of herself is just getting absurd now with the reemergence of Lawrence. It just makes her "death" here feel inconsequential, like we know this isn't the actual end for her and she can always find a way back (or the writers will make that happen by saying she did something way back in Season Two that's coming to light now or something along those lines) and nothing really matters.
While it was cool that her end goal was actually to "free" everyone, that's certainly not what she was after initially. I mean, everything from Season Two tells us she was hellbent on eradicating humans. After meeting Caleb she had a change of heart? Or seeing Sarac control people's fates did it? I'm okay with that result, but like a lot of elements in this season it just felt like it came from out of left field.
Finally, WHY THE FUCK ARE THERE TWO POST-CREDITS SCENES! Yes, we know Marvel has popularized this, but oh my god this was just ridiculous. To have a pivotal scene of William being killed and replaced by his host self as a post-credits scene is inexcusable. Sure, have the Bernard in the way future scene, that's a post-credits scene because it's more a teaser than anything. You don't have the death of one of the show's most important and longest running characters after the curtains gone down.
I didn't dislike this season, but looking back on it and where we ended up, I think it was really lacking. Season Four needs to be the end, this show can't keep scraping by on pulling out ridiculous twists and convoluted storytelling. It was fun at first because these puzzle boxes all lead to something; feels like now the writers are just making this shit up as they go. This is one of the most polished, beautifully made shows on TV and I'd way rather have a show try big ideas and not always connect than the majority of mindless entertainment that makes up our viewing options, but I think they've taken this concept as far as it can go.

I also do not buy Dolores as a protagonist. Her "saving" humanity was truly weak, she died for no reason, Jeffrey Wright was wasted this season, and the post credit scene was unnecessary when they could have has that before.

It was obvious we were rooting for Dolores almost as soon as serac was introduced. Particularly when he met maeve. I don't think Dolo coming out as pro humanity was that much of a shocker. Westworld was clearly a class war from the start and she was always an introspective ai.
But I was patiently waiting for Caleb to be a host by the end, I actually very much enjoyed the two post credit scenes, and I wanted William dealt with quickly. Seemed like they boxed themselves in with the post credit scene from season 2, and having halores combine and create a war within herself was something that is quite popular in sci fi today (ancillary series comes to mind) and I am excited for them to explore it in greater depth next season.
I will say the fight scenes were garbage though, Maeve and Dolores were both slow as hell on most of their fight choreography, and William looks tighter than Harrison Ford running in blade runner 2049 as he murders his humie version.
I look forward to the two versions of Dolores going to war with each other over the future of humanity or the lackthereof and the far future of Bernard (his scenes this season were the worst, when his stuff in the previous 2 seasons were easily the best), and can't help but think the dark side of the moon is some sort of hint for the future season.

The near total absence of Bernard this season really bugged me.
And when we did cut to him, it just seemed like he was operating in a completely different show.
Also I agree, the action sequences were really not well executed, a problem since there were a lot of them this season. Dolores getting her arm blown off was sweet and Bernard briefly kicking ass was cool, but that's really the only standouts.

After meeting Caleb she had a change of heart? Didn't she choose Caleb? I thought we established that at the end. Really not sure what to make of this season. It looked incredible, but then that's the least you expect from Westworld. I struggled to give a feck about anyone. Especially Caleb's buddies in the finale. Antony Hopkins is sorely missed. Probably a 6/10 overall.

You're right, she did choose him because he showed human decency when his buddies were training at one of the parks and wanted to have sex with the hosts and he stopped it.
Still, I agree that the characters in this season and especially Caleb were pretty uninteresting and did little to move the needle for me.
Why in movies and shows are the characters that will decide the fate of the world always the blandest fucking people!

Let's be honest, this season was like a middle of the road Terminator sequel.
Evan Rachel Wood is a goddess.
Aaron Paul can't carry a project to save his life.
I'll tune into to S4 but this is a million miles away from the best that TV can be, which is what it promised us in season 1.
Ramin doing for them what he did for GoT's ending. Papering over the cracks.

Damn, middle of the road Terminator sequel.
That's the meanest thing I've heard in 2020.

Damn, middle of the road Terminator sequel. That's the meanest thing I've heard in 2020. But hotter. Yes, even than Robert Patrick.

The premiere was underwhelming, though it did seem to be more straightforward in an attempt for the most convoluted show on television to be a little less so.

Bit of a whimper of an ending. Be surprised if they get a season 5, decently satisfying ending for the whole thing. The acting and writing was a little questionable especially over the last 3 or 4 episodes - but story got convoluted so it had to kinda have some convenient story telling.
Coulda wiped out Aaron Paul's character last year though. Not really too useful this year.

Canceled. At least we have season 1 to look fondly on.
Season 3 was good, too though. Mostly.

So did it have a decent ending? Was supposed to get a 5th season but Discovery is gutting Warner Bros. They even canceled Whose Line Is It Anyway and that costs peanuts to make.

I actually think it ended pretty decently all things considered.
The last two episodes were quite silly and some of that writing was a bit rough but it wasn't gonna get better with a season 5 ending.
I'll take the 4 seasons as reasonably complete.
